Chapter 7 - The Man Who Owned Roman’s Entire Empire

Roman had spent his entire life believing his father was the center of the Black Crown.
He had been wrong.
The real power behind the empire was a man named Malcolm Vane.
Malcolm had financed Roman's father's first casino.
He had supplied the criminal network.
He had created the hidden trust.
And he had remained invisible for decades.
Worse, Malcolm believed Roman owed him everything.
He appeared at the hotel the next evening.
No army.
No dramatic entrance.
Just one man in a gray suit.
Roman met him in the lobby.
Meera stood nearby with Evan.
Malcolm smiled.
“You look like your father.”
Roman replied:
“I've heard that from too many liars.”
Malcolm chuckled.
“Your father was not a liar.”
“He hid my brother's existence.”
“He was protecting the family.”
Roman's jaw tightened.
“Everyone says that.”
Malcolm looked at Evan.
“And that must be the boy.”
Meera moved in front of him.
Malcolm smiled.
“I wouldn't worry. I don't hurt children.”
Roman stared.
“Then why did your people track him?”
“Because he is useful.”
“He's six.”
“Exactly.”
Roman wanted to shoot him.
But Malcolm had brought legal documents.
Ownership claims.
Contracts.
Loans.
Decades of financial agreements.
According to them, Malcolm could seize control of the Black Crown.
Roman refused.
Malcolm smiled.
“Then the city will burn.”
Roman stepped closer.
“You don't scare me.”
“No.”
Malcolm looked around.
“But your employees should.”
The threat became real.
Attacks began.
Not on Roman.
On the people who worked for him.
A restaurant manager was threatened.
A driver's car was sabotaged.
A hotel employee disappeared.
Roman responded by moving every vulnerable employee into protected housing.
He gave them salaries in advance.
Paid their families.
For the first time, his people understood he was fighting for them.
Meera watched.
“You really are changing.”
Roman looked at her.
“Trying.”
“Why?”
He looked toward Evan.
“Because he taught me that safety isn't a wall.”
“What is it?”
“Knowing someone will come when you need them.”
Meera smiled.
“That sounds almost human.”
“I've been told I'm difficult.”
“You are.”
Roman laughed.
Then Evan grabbed his hand.
“The floor is shaking.”
Roman immediately went still.
“Where?”
“Under the restaurant.”
They rushed downstairs.
A hidden tunnel was being drilled beneath the building.
Malcolm's men were creating a direct passage to the vault.
Roman realized the attack was not about ownership papers.
Malcolm wanted the hidden accounts.
And the one person who could locate the vault was Evan.
Roman moved his family.
The children of employees.
The staff.
Everyone.
Then Malcolm called.
“Bring me Evan.”
“No.”
“He can hear the vault.”
“I said no.”
“Then everyone inside the Black Crown dies.”
Roman looked at the cameras.
Malcolm was watching.
Roman made a decision.
“Come get me.”
“You?”
“Yes.”
Malcolm smiled.
“You think you are brave.”
“No.”
Roman looked at Meera.
“I think I'm done being afraid.”
The confrontation happened beneath the casino.
Malcolm arrived with armed men.
Roman arrived with no army.
Only himself.
Meera.
Evelyn.
And Evan.
Malcolm stared.
“You brought the child.”
Roman answered:
“He chose to come.”
Evan looked frightened.
Roman knelt.
“You don't have to do anything.”
Evan whispered.
“I know.”
He pointed at the floor.
“It's there.”
Malcolm smiled.
“Excellent.”
Roman's security team attacked from hidden positions.
The room erupted.
Gunfire.
Smoke.
Chaos.
Malcolm escaped toward the vault.
Evan pointed.
“Left!”
Roman followed.
They found Malcolm beside the hidden vault.
But he had no key.
He needed Evan.
Malcolm grabbed him.
Meera screamed.
Roman raised his weapon.
“Let him go.”
Malcolm laughed.
“You care about this boy more than your empire.”
Roman answered:
“Yes.”
Malcolm hesitated.
That was enough.
Evelyn fired.
Malcolm dropped.
Roman grabbed Evan.
Meera ran to them.
The vault opened behind them.
Inside were records from thirty years of criminal activity.
Everything.
The truth.
The entire empire.
Roman turned the evidence over to federal investigators.
Malcolm was arrested.
The Black Crown was no longer an empire.
It was a company.
A legitimate one.
Roman sold the criminal assets.
Closed the hidden vault.
Destroyed the illegal network.
Then he did something nobody expected.
He changed the company's name.
BLACK CROWN became BLACKWELL GROUP.
New board.
New rules.
Independent oversight.
Employee protections.
No secret accounts.
No underground operations.
The transformation became public.
Some people believed him.
Others didn't.
Roman knew trust would take time.
He was willing to wait.
But there was still one final threat.
Malcolm had mentioned someone else.
A man called The Architect.
Roman assumed he was dead.
Then one morning, Evan walked into his office.
He placed a drawing on the desk.
A man.
An elevator.
A little boy.
And one sentence.
THE ARCHITECT IS MOMMY'S FRIEND.
Meera's face went white.
“I don't know anyone named Architect.”
Roman looked at her.
“I believe you.”
Then Evan added:
May you like
“He comes to the apartment when you're at work.”
Roman's blood went cold.
